Whale Shark – swim with the gentle giants

Have the experience of a lifetime and snorkel with the biggest fish in the sea. The whale sharks come to visit us every year between May and September. They come here to feed on the plankton rich waters. Whale Sharks are filter animals and mainly eat plankton, which is a microorganism. The area where they gather is between the island of Holbox and Punta Sam (north of Cancun).

Whale Sharks grow to approximately 12 meters and live in the tropical and subtropical waters. Even though, they have been on our planet for over 60 million years until today there’s still very little know about those animals.

On the tour to see the whale sharks you first drive to the harbor in Punta Sam. There a light breakfast awaits you. Afterwards, you get on the boat (10 persons per boat) and you start sailing. Depending on, where the whale sharks are it takes 1 – 2 hours to find them. As soon as you’re in the area with the sharks the big moment comes and you have the chance to swim with them. There’s always an experienced guide together with you in the water.

In the normal case you have two jumps – however, this always depends on the conditions we have on the day – how many whale sharks we find and how long it takes to find them. Afterwards, we sail back in direction of Isla Mujeres. Arriving to the island, we’ll have one more snorkeling activity in a coral reef, where we can see different corals, fish and sometimes even sea turtles. Afterwards, we go to Playa Norte in Isla Mujeres, one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Mexico. On the beach we have a Ceviche Lunch and time to relax before we head back to Punta Sam.
